Catla Fish

Catla fish is one of the well-known freshwater fish found in the rivers and lakes of India. Catla fish recipes are one of the tastiest fish preparations that can be made easily at your home. Catla fish is commonly found in rivers, canals and the breeding percentage is very good.

This fish can also be grown commercially in fresh water ponds. Catla commercial farming in freshwater pond is very profitable as these fish are hardy and grow very fast by eating surface feed. Catla Fingerlings consume some planktonic algae, vegetable debris along with larger size zooplankton. Adults feed mainly on the surface and in mid-water. Adults are also planktivorous and show a preference for zooplankton.

Catla and Rohu will have the same fat composition though because of the diet being the same. Rohu and Catla taste almost same for most but I can taste the difference. Catla is clean tasting with smooth texture. Their head is more fatty and flavorful than that of rohu.

Catla is known to offer a range of health benefits: It has Omega 6 to Omega 3 fatty acids. It contains Niacin or Vitamin B3 as well. Catla contains low cholesterol levels. It has a low-fat content. It is rich in numerous nutrients such as zinc, potassium, iodine, vitamins, selenium, and Vitamin A. They keep our skin healthy and help prevent skin problems such as psoriasis and eczema.
